Did You Realize?

By Ron S. Niehouse, Executive Director (Medical Cannabis Journal) (California)

...that every newborn who breast feeds will receive cannabinoids thru breast milk?  This helps to stimulate the baby’s appetite?

...law enforcement makes an average of over 700,000 marijuana-related arrests yearly?

...87% of marijuana-related arrests are for an insignificant amount? Often being less than one ounce.  Penalties and there severity vary from state to state.

...if you are in the State of California and you have less than one ounce of marijuana, without a doctor’s recommendation, you can be issued a fine of $50, and have no record pertaining to the incident.  This was passed and is supported by the Governor of California in September, 2010.  We now have a new Governor, Jerry Brown.

...the United States of America spends somewhere between $10 and $15 billion dollars annually to hunt down and arrest recreational and medicinal marijuana users?

...in Alabama, three marijuana-related convictions can be very serious?  On your third marijuana related conviction you could face 15 years to life in prison. Often for an insignificant amount of cannabis.

...marijuana can be used as a reason for the government to force your children into the state’s foster care system?  Fighting for the custody of your children, coupled with the legal-fees associated with a marijuana-related arrest, can ultimately destroy economic-stability and sound family structures.

...according to the DEA’s Controlled Substance Act, marijuana is a schedule I drug and is wrongfully considered more dangerous than heroin, morphine, Percocet, methamphetamine and cocaine?

...according to U.S. history there have never been a majority of citizens who claim to support the legalization of marijuana? The California Field Poll shows that 56% of Californians support taxation and regulation.  They would also like cannabis to have similar availability as alcohol and cigarettes.

...THC is not completely harmless yet it is safer than water. Although a person can overdose on H2O there is no evidence supporting the possibility of an overdose on THC?

Endocannabinoid system

It would be very interesting to surgically remove the endocannabinoidal system from the members of society that are still under the influence of Anslinger and Alchohol. Just so they would gain a better understanding of the systems that keep our bodies functioning correctly. Only people with very closed minds still consider Cannabis as a schedule 1 drug. World science has proved abundantly, that there are more medical benefits within the cannabis plant than have currently been discovered within any other. As a current MMJ patient and past recreational user I have spent much time in researching the information involving cannabis' benefits (43years total)It is amazing how long prohibition has lasted with its damaging effects on America. How much more real crime could be prevented without law enforcement wasting time and money on cannabis.
I support prop. 19 in California as it could become a model for the Feds to follow, for the total decriminalization in America. Also relief for our over-crowded prison system. Thus making plenty of room for "Real" criminals. Wake Up America.!!!

MCJ Interviews Mary Lynn Mathre

I have been a registered Nurse for over 35 years. I began in medical/surgical adult care - nursing and the hospital system. Along the way, I learned about patients using cannabis. I have a Masters prepared background in medical/surgical nursing. In the early 80’s, I was a supervising nurse in a small hospital in Washington State. Our Director of Nursing was quite concerned because an elderly patient was coming in with what she called a “marijuana pill.

IRS Ruling Against Harborside No Surprise by: Mark Pedersen

What has happened to Harborside, though regrettable and terribly tragic for those patients that rely on it, is far from being a surprise. The fact is, the only thing that has kept the state and Federal Governments from locking down ALL of the dispensaries in Cali and the other states with cannabis programs has been the sheer number of participants in their medical cannabis programs.

Round Table Meeting with Judge James P. Gray, Judy K. Thompson & Ron Niehouse (MCJ)

If you’re gonna use any, well no, not my drug cause it’s a legal drug, that’s alcohol, that’s okay. I can be a social drinker. But if you’re marijuana, you’re the devil weed. They don’t draw those distinctions intentionally. And they will accuse me of being a drug legalizer. Well, what does that mean? Anytime you’re a drug legalizer it has the intended connotation that I don’t care if your 12 year old daughter buys some cocaine in a vending machine across from her junior high school. That’s the connotation that they want. Because it will freeze peoples minds. It will stop the discussion in its tracks & that’s exactly the intended outcome.
